How Hot Does Motorcycle Exhaust Get

I was just wondering today, how hot does an exhaust roughly get? When its raining, and im at a standstill (or just parked up with engine off), the rain hits my exhaust and evaporates immediatley.....and if you touch it, it bloody hurts (not intentional ) So, does the 'outer skin' get a lot hotter than the inner part (mines got a tube that extends from the downpipe and goes right into the 'core' of the frazzle where all the baffles are).....or does the inner parts go a lot hotter than the outer parts?

I don't mean to invade someone else's thread, but has anyone ever lagged their downpipes? https://www.demon-tweeks.co.britain/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=NIM11151 The downpipes on my Cat don't seem to exist enjoying winter (if you tin call information technology that ) riding as much as I am, I'grand thinking this would protect them to some degree but don't know how hot things would go???????
